Mathematics help children understand the world around in terms of numbers and shapes. They learn to reason, connect ideas, and think logically. During. the early years children develop a basis of informal and formal mathematics as well as conceptual and procedural knowledge. Children prefer using their fingers and having a hands on experience of everything they are learning. Use of multimedia for interaction makes the experience fun and interesting for children.
Also they are unable to comprehend and understand textual descriptions properly. If they cannot understand the text, then they adopt incorrect strategies, leading to inability to effectively solve problems. According to researchers active and appropriate use of technology and media can support and extend traditional materials in valuable ways and increase the cognitive development of the toddlers. Moreover technology and interactive media if appropriately used, with the support of knowledgeable adults, can be harnessed for early learning and development.

The computer represents not only an excellent curricular tool, but also a revolutionary approach that can help students achieve important gains in learning. Research has shown that technology can improve children's thinking ability. The presentation of continuous images is used to help students in overcoming problem-solving difficulties due to poor comprehension. Iconic representation can provide learners with repetitive information, concretizing abstract words and numbers in the process, and help learners deconstruct problems when learning mathematics. They can reorganize the parts, converting them into meanings that can be understood, therefore reducing the cognitive load in problem-solving.

The applications existing in the market fail to tap into the power of images and all other kinds of multimedia for teaching purpose. Implementing math activities through various innovative approaches can enhance the children's opportunities for problem solving, reasoning, and communicating about mathematics. Also one application is used to teach only numbers or shapes while another application is used for teaching simple addition and subtraction. Eventually, this has resulted in the development of hundreds of different learning applications being used by the kids. Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop a mobile based application for children that will incorporate all the required materials for the kids to learn the basic concepts.

We have developed the application adhering to the basic HMI principles of design. We have used basic tools familiar to children so that it is easily comprehensible by them. We have embedded the application with sounds to make it more entertaining. We have made extensive use of images and videos to explain the concepts. Studies have found that image information can be absorbed and processed more quickly by the human brain than verbal information. Also we have additionally used cartoon characters with the aim of  making learning fun and effective for children. Instead of viewing it as a learning application, children should get the view of a leisure activity which they can enjoy and at the same time basic math concepts are imbibed within them.
